The profile and perceptions of the student, himself and the environment, understanding this, as all the factors that motivate the election of a tourism carrier, compromise with it and persevere in finishing it at the Hotel and Tourism School of the Universidad de Oriente, first period of 2001, is characterized. A descriptive study and field research using a survey technique was done. A socio/demographic, academic and motivational characterization was done, as conclusion there is an information and guidance need for the students.
